We were presented with an exciting opportunity last fall – a chance to participate in the first annual Proven Brands of Kansas Elite Angus Female Sale on October 1, 2011. The total offering included more than 90 head of top females from seven well-known, successful Angus programs from across the state. Each breeder participating in this sale has a solid reputation, and we are proud to be among them. Between all of us, there’s over 400 years of experience breeding Angus cattle in Kansas.

Lyons Ranch sold 11 first-calf fall heifers, most with babies at their sides out of the top bulls in the breed. These young mothers looked great and were doing their jobs well. All of the Lyons Ranch females had been DNA tested through the American Angus Association Igenity program so the accuracies on their EPDs were, at sale time, as high as if they had recorded 15 or more progeny.

Our Lyons Ranch females and their calves are now working for breeders in Illinois, Kentucky, Ohio and Kansas. We are proud to be a part of this group and are excited about making new partnerships and enriching established relationships in the cattle business in the future.

The second annual Proven Brands of Kansas Elite Angus Female Sale will be held on October 6, 2012, immediately after the 2012 National Angus Tour. Lyons Ranch will host a pasture stop on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2012. We look forward to showing Angus enthusiasts a little bit about ranching in the Flint Hills of Kansas.
